RE:         Scholarly Capacity Exception & Food at Student Events

In response to the many questions AAUP has received on the Scholarly Capacity Exception to the New Jersey Ethics Law, attached please find a comprehensive summary of the NEW Scholarly Capacity Exception for which AAUP worked hard to achieve.

Under this exception UMDNJ faculty when acting in a scholarly capacity are now allowed to accept things of value. Please read the attached carefully so that you fully understand what you can and can not do.

Although prior UMDNJ approval for accepting things of value when acting in a scholarly capacity are no longer required, UMDNJ is still requiring that you continue to use the Attendance at Events forms.

We have also attached a summary for the provision of food at student events.
