AAUP PROTECTS FACULTY FROM RETALIATION
On November 18, 2010, the AAUP filed of an unfair practice charge against UMDNJ for retaliating against faculty who complained about various changes to the terms and conditions of their employment. As a result of raising these collective concerns about the terms of their employment with their Division Chief, Chairman, and their Dean, these faculty were:
- non-renewed;
- denied promotions;
- denied approval/reimbursement for engaging in academic activities they were previously approved/reimbursed for; and
- denied an opportunity to complete their research protocol.
All faculty have a legal right to collectively complain about the terms of their employment.
The AAUP views any retaliatory acts by UMDNJ in the exercise of this right as improper and will take all appropriate actions to protect faculty in the exercise of their collective right to complain about the terms of their employment.
