AAUP Wins Major Victory To Protect Your Extramural Incentive Award
In a recent Arbitration decision challenging the University’s refusal to provide a faculty member with their full extramural support incentive award, an arbitrator found that UMDNJ “violated Article VIII(C) of the [AAUP contract] when it failed to pay [a faculty member] the Principal Investigator’s share of the second portion of the Extramural Support Incentive Award for FY2003 through FY2007.” This is the portion that your Chair is obligated to discuss and reach agreement with you and to the extent there is no agreement, the Chair and you are required to share this portion of the award 50-50. During the time period at issue, the Chair failed to discuss this portion with the faculty member and failed to equally share this portion, as is required by the AAUP contract. Consequently, the Arbitrator ordered the University to compensate the faculty member for this portion of the award for the 5 years in question in an amount of $21,511.
This is an important decision that reinforces the University’s obligation to comply with the Extramural Support Incentive Award provisions of the AAUP contract.
