On March 10, 2009, the AAUP, NJDS Academic Assembly, NJMS Faculty Organization, NJMS Medical Staff Organization, School of Nursing Faculty Organization, and the Librarians held two meetings on the "lack of academic due process" in UMDNJ’s investigatory/disciplinary procedure in matters of professional discipline. We want to thank the approximately 160 faculty and librarians for their participation in these successful meetings and for their input.
The faculty and librarians in attendance at the combined meetings unanimously approved a resolution, which in summary calls for:
- immediate and direct faculty and librarian participation in the development and implementation of an investigatory/disciplinary procedure in matters of professional discipline and that this procedure be implemented as soon as possible, but no later than June 1, 2009.
- inclusion of basic academic due process principles (i.e. notice of allegations) into the investigatory/disciplinary procedure.
The full text of the resolution is here.
