RE: HEALTH INSURANCE CHALLENGE - WHAT YOU CAN DO

THE UNION COALITION, WHICH AAUP IS A PART OF, IS REQUESTING THAT YOU EMAIL PRESIDENT OWEN TO OBJECT TO THE UNILATERAL MODIFICATIONS TO YOUR HEALTH
BENEFITS AND THE UNILATERAL IMPOSITION OF A 1.5% EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION.

AAUP HAS FILED A GRIEVANCE AND AN UNFAIR LABOR PRACTICE ON YOUR BEHALF TO PREVENT THE UNIVERSITY FROM UNILATERALLY MODIFYING YOUR HEALTH BENEFITS AND FROM UNILATERALLY IMPOSING A 1.5% EMPLOYEE CONTRIBUTION. AAUP IS DOING EVERYTHING THAT IT CAN - WE NEED YOU TO DO THE SAME AND ARE ASKING FOR YOUR SUPPORT BY EMAILING PRESIDENT OWEN AT wfowenmd@umdnj.edu WITH THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE:

Dr. Owen: I have been a member of UMDNJ faculty for [INSERT] years and I am
surprised and perplexed that UMDNJ has unilaterally modified faculty health
benefits which were agreed upon in the AAUP-UMDNJ contract and unilaterally
imposed a 1.5% employee contribution. UMDNJ must honor its contractual
commitments and comply with the AAUP contract and the NJ labor law, which
requires negotiation over all terms and condition of employment, As such, it
would have been appropriate for UMDNJ to discuss and negotiate these issues
with AAUP. I am hoping you will reconsider UMDNJ's decision to unilaterally
implement these modifications and provide the faculty with the opportunity
to participate in the decision making process and governance of UMDNJ.
Thank you.

ONE THING OUR EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN IS BY ACTING TOGETHER AS ONE - WE ARE ABLE TO SEND STRONG MESSAGES TO THE ADMINISTRATION THAT FORCES THEM TO
CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OF THEIR ACTIONS.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
